Nana Patekar refuses to work with Sanjay Dutt

KARACHI: Bollywood veteran and three-time National Award winner Nana Patekar reportedly refuses to work with Sanjay Dutt or watch his movies.
While many of Dutt’s friends and well wishers are coming out in support of the actor. Aamir Khan reportedly altered his filming schedule to help him complete Raj Kumar Hirani’s film “Peekay”. Dutt’s close friends Ajay Devgn and Salman Khan also helped him wholeheartedly. But Nana Patekar, on the other hand, completely backed off from collaborating with Dutt in the future.
The 62-year-old reportedly feels that Dutt should adhere to the court’s rulings and should not be given a reprieve for his crime. Moreover, he said that the law should be same for everyone and Dutt should be punished for his deeds.
The Supreme Court of India recently extended Dutt’s duration to surrender by four weeks due to his professional commitments.
The “Munna Bhai” actor filed a review petition against the March 21st judgment upholding his conviction under the Arms Act and sentencing him to five years in prison.

1993 blasts: Supreme Court to hear Sanjay Dutt's plea on Wednesday.
Dutt on Monday sought another six months to surrender.
The Supreme Court will on Wednesday hear Bollywood actor Sanjay Dutt's plea seeking six months more time to surrender to undergo three-and-a-half- year jail term for illegally possessing firearms in connection with the 1993 Mumbai serial blasts case.

A bench of justices P Sathasivam and M Y Eqbal, before whom the matter was mentioned today, said Dutt's plea should be heard by the same bench which had passed the judgement in the 1993 Mumbai blasts case.
The court posted the case to Wednesday when the matter will be heard by a bench of justices P Sathasivam and BS Chauhan.
Dutt, 53, who was directed to surrender by April 18, urged the apex court to allow him to finish shooting of his films which will take at least 196 days and submitted that he should be allowed to surrender after completion of films as over Rs 278 crores has been invested by the producers in seven movies.
The apex court had on March 21 granted Dutt, who has already been in jail for 18 months, to surrender within four weeks to undergo the remaining prison term.
The apex court had on March 21 upheld his conviction in the 1993 Mumbai serial blasts case which it said was organised by underworld don Dawood Ibrahim and others with the involvement of Pakistan's ISI.
However, the apex court had reduced to five years the six year jail term awarded to him by a designated TADA court in 2006, ruling out his release on probation because the "nature" of his offence was "serious".
Dutt, the son of famous Bollywood couple Sunil Dutt and Nargis, was convicted by the TADA court for illegal possession a 9 mm Pistol and a AK-56 rifle which was part of the consignment of weapons and explosives brought to India for the coordinated serial blasts that killed 257 people and injured over 700.

Sanjay Dutt Seeks Six More Months To Surrender

Invoking "humanitarian" grounds, actor Sanjay Dutt moved the Supreme Court on Monday seeking six more months to surrender so that he can complete his film projects. The court had on March 21 granted the actor four weeks time to surrender to serve his remaining three-and-a-half-year jail term for illegally possessing arms in the 1993 Mumbai serial blasts case.
In his plea, Dutt claimed that producers had invested around Rs 278 crore in his ongoing film projects, and he needed at least 196 days to complete these.
"This court may extend the time to surrender in terms of order dated March 21, 2013, by a period of six months upon an undertaking of the petitioner to surrender on expiry of the extended period and upon such terms and conditions as this court may deem fit and proper in the facts and circumstances of the case," said the application, which is likely to come up for hearing on Tuesday.
Dutt made it clear that the plea was "based entirely on humanitarian ground" as it seeks to invoke extraordinary jurisdiction of the apex court under Article 142 of the Constitution. "Unless the prayer of the petitioner is granted, he and others would suffer serious loss and prejudice and livelihood of several families would be affected," said the application.
The actor also highlighted his contribution to society, saying he donated crores of rupees to the Prime Minister's welfare fund and worked towards rehabilitation of tsunami victims.
On the question of filing a review petition against the SC verdict, Dutt contended that he was still soliciting legal advice on the issue.
Meanwhile, three other convicts in the blasts case — Zaibunisha Anwar Kazi, Issaq Mohd Hajwane and Shariff Abdul Gafoor Parker alias Dadabhai — have also moved the apex court for extension of time to surrender. They pleaded that the time limit fixed by the Supreme Court be extended till their clemency plea is decided by the President.
Former Supreme Court judge and Press Council of India chief Markandey Katju had made representations to the President on the trio's behalf.
The apex court had upheld the TADA court's verdict for five-year jail term to Kazi, who is 70 and suffers from cancer. Hajwane, 76, was sentenced to life imprisonment after the court enhanced his five-year jail term, whereas the life term to Parker, 88, was maintained.
In their writ petitions, mentioned before the court by senior advocate Fali S Nariman, they have pleaded that they should not be asked to surrender till the representation made by Katju on their behalf is decided by the President. Their petitions will also be taken up for hearing tomorrow.
"Since the procedure established by law under Article 21 of the Constitution does not end with the final judgment of the highest court but also extends into the domain of exercise of presidential power under Article 72 and since such power has been duly invoked, the order of this court be suspended until the decision by the President on the petition filed before him on March 28 and now pending," read the petitions.

Vidya on Sanjay Dutt: I Wish his Punishment is Reduced.

Sanjay Dutt's 'Parineeta' and 'Lage Raho Munnabhai' co-star Vidya Balan feels that the Bollywood actor deserves a lesser punishment in the 1993 blasts case.

Maharashtra Governor K Sankaranarayanan has received several representations and petitions from various individuals and organisations, both seeking and opposing clemency for the 53-year-old actor.

Dutt has been ordered by the Supreme Court recently to return to jail to complete the five-year-sentence in the blasts case. But as he has already served 18 months, he would have to undergo the imprisonment for three-and-a-half-years.
"We all have faith in judiciary system. I don't think it is right for me to say anything about that. But as someone who really considers him as special and dear I just wish that his punishment becomes less. I know there are people who deserve this... but all of us are reacting from a personal point of view," Vidya said.
"Sanju is very special for me. I will always be there for him. God bless him," she said on the sidelines of an event held over the weekend.
Meanwhile, Vidya is looking forward to the release of 'Ghanchakkar' a comedy where she plays a loud Punjabi housewife. The film directed by Rajkumar Gupta will see her opposite Emraan Hashmi.
"The promos have good response. It was a different experience for me, she is so loud. I used to feel I won't be able to deliver dialogues with so much loudness but Rajkumar made me do it," she said.
The 34-year-old star will be seen next in Pritish Nandy's home production film 'Shaadi Ke Side Effects' opposite Farhan Akhtar.
"The shooting is on and we are having fun. First time, I am working with a writer-actor-director-musician (Farhan) it is great, he has holistic perspective on things. It is fascinating for me," Vidya said.
